I dropped Math 423
I decided to drop Mathematics for Finance yesterday and luckily Professor Thompson gave me the override to take his Economics for Development. The only reason I dropped Math 423 is because I really cannot stand the professor. The materials taught in 423 are not hard, I tried to self study and I could manage it, BUT I was having a nightmare in the lectures. I dunno how many of you have ever experienced such a lousy professor, after him explaining normal distribution I was completely confused- I am a statistics major student and I have 100% confidence in my understanding to normal distribution. He just wrote random things on the board and to make it even worse, he could not explain what he was doing. I sat there and got the feeling that my head was going to explode at any moment. I am trying hard not to exaggerate my feeling... Okie I am not going to take 423 under this professor, and not any course that is offered by this professor!!So now I will focus more on my 451, which is a pure analysis course. This is a really challenging course and I start to enjoy it... haha the hardest proving questions in mathematics are those to prove something you take for granted... One question we had yesterday was to prove "If a is smaller than any number that is bigger than b, then a is smaller or equals to b" ie "if a < x for all x > b, then a <= b". Well, this makes perfect sense, but the problem is, how to prove it? and 451 is a mixture of linguistics and mathematical logic, it is really exciting!!
A: for every x > 0, there exists a y such that blah blah
B: there is a y for each x > 0 such that blah blah
I think I do not mind doing a math minor besides my two majors, if I have spare credits. Of course, not including any course offered by the 423 professor... ><
